What youths, other participants gained at Delta Social Media Summit (Video)

The Delta Social Media Summit, anchored by Ossai Ovie Success, the senior special assistant to Delta state governor on media, held on Thursday in Asaba, the Delta state capital.

The event drew participants from different parts of the state who attended to draw some vital lessons on use of the social media, its benefits and its implications if used to pursue negative agenda.

Among the special guests at the event was a social media influencer, who is popularly called Real Warri Pikin. She is a well known influencer who has cut her teeth with effective of the social media, even becoming ambassador to many organizations.

Real Warri Pikin is one of the individuals who have employed the power of the social media to make impact and gained recognition among brands in Nigeria.

Her speech specially dwelt on how youths could deploy the social media to make the world better for themselves and the general society. She is one of the biggest comedians in Nigeria with her funny but jaw breaking jokes.

Ossai Ovie Success who is the convener of the Delta social media summit, also gained prominence through the influence of the social media. His deals with the state government today came about through the positive use of the social media.

It was revealed that prior to the emergence of former governor Ifeanyi Okowa who brought Ossai to limelight, he was involved in promoting Okowa’s agenda believing the former governor had the best agenda for the people of Delta among all the people contesting for governorship then back in 2014.

Arising from his positive use of the social media, he won the admiration of the former governor who gave him appointment then as personal assistant in the first tenure. In the second tenure, he was appointed special assistant on media. And in the current government, he is serving as senior special assistant on media to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.

Therefore, his championing of the Delta Social Media Summit is a function of his clear understanding of the power and the influence of the various social media platforms. Currently, he has one of the largest social media following among all the aides of the governor of the state and possibly social media influencers who are based in the state.

The Delta Social Media Summit which held at Mariam Babangida Leisure Park drew a large crowd of participants who trooped in to tap from the wealth of experience of the convener and the guest speakers.

Supported by the Delta state governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, the event focused on empowering young people by teaching them responsible social media use and the importance of accurate information sharing so as to maintain social cohesion.

Participants were encouraged to explore the opportunities that social media offers while being cautious about spreading misinformation that could cause havoc or have damaging impact on society and even individual image.

In his speech, Governor Oborevwori, who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Hon. Prince Johnson Erijo, emphasized the importance of accuracy and honesty in social media activities.

He urged young people to exercise caution and be truthful in their online interactions so as not to cause crisis. He advised against spreading misleading information but dwell on facts and verifiable information.

The summit with the theme “Harnessing the Power of Social Media” was well-attended as participants took part in workshops and discussions aimed at improving their digital skills, a development if properly harnessed could fetch them means of livelihood.

The event also showcased Governor Oborevwori’s commitment to engaging with the youth, developing infrastructure, and promoting fairness in Delta state.

Mr. Ossai Ovie Success, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Media and convener of the event commended the participants for finding time to attend, noting that the summit had the objective of guiding young people to use social media positively and effectively.

He encouraged participants to leverage on the social media platforms for both personal and professional growth and development.

The summit, featuring prominent state figures, offered a valuable opportunity for learning, networking, and skill-building, paving a positive path for Delta state youth in the digital age.
