An emerging intellectual giant from Ubulu-Uku community, Miss Okocha Jennifer, who recently graduated with 1st Class Honours from the department of Industrial Chemistry, Delta State University Abraka, has relived her harsh experience while in school. Graduating with a CGPA of 4.58, Miss Okocha alongside one of her coursemates, broke an academic record which has stood in the department for nearly two decades.
The former Senior Prefect (SP) 2012 academic class of Ezemu Girls’ Grammar School Ubulu-Uku, studied Science Laboratory Technology at Delta State Polytechnic Ozoro, before gaining admission into Delta State University Abraka, to study Industrial Chemistry in the 2016/2017 academic session,
The young girl who hails from Abuedo Quarters in Ubulu-Uku, Aniocha South Local Government Area of Delta State, recalls that she battled with financial difficulties, otherwise, if there was anything better than first class, she would have made it.
“I lost both of my parents before the age of 15. My elder brother and my sister did all they could to assist me to acquire university education.
“I also had to acquire skills as fashion designer to enable me support my education. Losing my parents didn’t discourage me from pursuing my dreams and I am grateful to my siblings for their support.”
She hinted that after passing out from the NYSC camp in November, she has been looking to secure a job to enable her build a career, adding that she looks forward to furthering her studies if she saves enough money to pay for her tuition.
“Since I finished my service in November, 2020, I have been looking to secure employment opportunity. I am calling on well meaning sons and daughters of Ubulu-Uku to assist me get a job.
I plan to further my education up to doctorate degree but I need a job to help me pay the tuition fees.” She concluded.
The academic genius and fashion designer lives in Asaba but insists she is willing to relocate to any city where she is offered gainful employment.
