An Igbo socio-cultural group, Igbo Kwudoro Okowa, has weighed options in favour of the next president emerging from the southern region with Governor Ifeanyi Okowa as its most preferred candidate.

The group led by the coordinator, Honourable Chinedu Okafor, stated this during a courtesy call on the Senior Political Adviser (SPOLAD) to the Governor, Chief Isaac Anwusia.

Hon Okafor told the political adviser that the southern half of the nation, especially the east, was yet to produce President since Nigeria gained independence in 1960; with the exception of Nnamdi Azikiwe.

‘’Nigerian Presidency of Igbo extraction will be key and vital to ending the feeling of marginalization from one of the major ethnic groups in Nigeria which in turn will put an end to developmental drawbacks, and most importantly, breed a serene atmosphere for national development.

‘’We have played our roles in the development of the country, and it is only fair enough to give us the presidential slot. A Nigerian Presidency of Igbo extraction in 2023 will give the right of fairness to genuine aspirations to take charge of the nation’s affairs and our march towards greatness.

‘’We use this medium to appreciate our brother and ardent son of the soil, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, for his impeccable landslide achievements in the state through his unbiased governance.

‘’We are proud of you as a people and wish you well in your future aspirations as the affairs of this country needs people like you who will work wholeheartedly towards ensuring unity and oneness like you have done to all Deltans.

‘’We call on our brothers of Igbo origin in different parts of the country to come together and work together with the oneness of purpose come 2023,” the statement read in part,” he said.

Chief Anwuzia, who played host to the group, commended them for believing in the leadership of Governor Okowa as proven through his legacies over the years, even as he promised to convey their goodwill to the governor.

Gbagi, a leading Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), governorship aspirant in Delta state while addressing over 500 members of Gbagi Solidarity Movement (GSM), at a New Year get together in Oginibo, Ughelli South local government area, had said it was important to offer supplications for the governor ahead 2023.

Although he noted that Okowa has not consented to the idea, Gbagi asserted: “Okowa has done very well with the little resources he got to develop Delta. He has done what only God can do for His people. Let us pray that Okowa will not only finish strong and stronger, but will go to the next level.”

“I have not seen on the list of people vying to be president in 2023 the person that is as good as Okowa. Okowa has character and the Bible says where one, two or three are gathered in His name and make a declaration in His name,, God will honour it

“If Okowa becomes the President of Nigeria, if zoned to the South or, at least, the Vice President, it will be easier for us to access him. And if he finished as the President or Vice, I will take over from him, just as I will take over from him in 2023” he stated.

“We agreed that if Okowa finishes, he must go to higher level. I am supporting Okowa to be either the President or Vice President of Nigeria. If we all agreed here, his spirit will accept it and God will bring it to pass,” he added.
