National chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Mallam Shehu Gaban, has said that SDP is the only party that will unite the country and provide answers to all the needs of Nigerians across regional divides.
The national chairman who spoke when Olorogun Barrister Kenneth Gbagi led the national executive committee of the party to the palace of the Ovie of Uvwie, HRM Dr. Emmanuel Abe Sideso, said what is happening presently in Nigeria is not ideal for the nation.
He said the presidential and the governorship candidates of the party across the states are men of integrity who are set to reposition their various states for the good of all citizens and residents.
He said the government of SDP if given opportunity to lead Nigeria and the various states where the party candidates are featuring, will give priority roles to traditional rulers, observing that the security of communities is more in the hands of traditional rulers than the federal and state governments.
He said there will be more unity and cohesion in Nigeria if traditional rulers are given their specific roles to play in the affairs of the nation, just as he noted that royal fathers are in better position to advise voters on who to vote for that will bring dividends of democracy to the people.
He said: “We are in tandem with the position of the traditional rulers. We are very much concerned with their welfare. They are in better position to advise voters on who to vote for. That is why we are going round the country to hear their views.
“We want to fix the country so that we can leave a good legacy for our children. We believe that we have a duty to work together to restore Nigeria. We believe it is possible. We need a stable Nigeria where there is no crisis.”
Presidential candidate of the party, Prince Adewole Adebayo who was represented by former minister of youths and sports, Solomon Dalung, said traditional institution remains the only option to salvage Nigeria’s security challenges.
He said: “In the present day Nigeria, our leaders, communities, citizens, nobody is safe. It is only traditional rulers that are close to the people and can assess verifiable security reports.” He noted that the level of hunger, unemployment in Nigeria is embarrassing, hence, “we need leadership that can help reposition and transform the country for the good of all. This is irrespective of tribe, political affiliation, culture or religion.”
According to him: “SDP is the first victim of injustice in Nigeria. We won election and it was annulled. Nobody has told us why it was annulled till today. In Delta state, we need honest and sincere governor to run this state. And we have found Olorogun Kenneth Gbagi as the needed alternative. With Kenneth Gbagi, the transformation of Delta is possible.”
Olorogun Barrister Gbagi, the Delta state governorship candidate of the SDP, told the monarch that Delta is too rich a state for residents to suffer and hunger, noting that Delta has enough resources to make life beautiful for everyone but expressed sadness that despite the bountiful endowment God has bestowed on the state, the state government is still borrowing money to execute projects.
He said: “God who gave us this state has a purpose. Delta will not pay school fees from primary to university in my government. Why should Delta not have good hospitals? I will produce good hospitals in this state. We will change the fortune of this state. Everybody knows that what I say I do.
“The apathy of good people to politics is giving space to lunatics and uneducated people to be in government. In the early years, Delta was better than Lagos but our leaders have flown away our wealth. We can turn Delta to a mini Dubai. That is quite possible.”
