Human rights activist Aisha Yesufu has urged former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to call his supporters to order over alleged attacks on supporters of Peter Obi ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 presidential election.
Yesufu made the appeal in a post on her verified X account on Tuesday evening.
She alleged that some of Atiku’s supporters had been attacking Obi’s supporters on social media, adding that she had personally become one of the targets.
She said she expected better conduct from Atiku’s supporters, noting that she and the former vice president had previously worked together in the same political party.
Yesufu also called for political decency and sportsmanship among supporters of opposition figures as preparations for the 2027 election intensify.
She argued that attention should instead be focused on defeating the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Tinubu at the election.
Her comments come as political activity continues to intensify ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 presidential contest, with supporters of opposition figures increasingly engaging in debates over the direction of the country’s politics.
