An ex-militant leader, Eshanakpe Israel a.k.a Akpodoro, has congratulated the newly appointed service chiefs by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday.

Nuhu Ribadu

The congratulatory message was contained in a statement written and signed by Akpodoro who is the Mayor of Urhoboland, Tuesday in Abuja, the nation’s seat of power.

Specifically, Akpodoro said Mr. Nuhu Ribadu’s appointment didn’t come as a surprise to any well-meaning Nigerian having built a record of meritorious service of integrity as a police officer and an anti-graft czar saying, his current position is a call to more service for the Adamawa-born security chief.

According to Akpodoro who commended the presdient for heeding his (Mayor’s) call for change of guards in the national security architecture, the president is responsive and willing to work in his bid to instilling confidence in the citizenry.

He added that President Tinubu’s choice of security chiefs cut across the broad spectrum of the nation. Wth the latest development, his Excellency, President Tinubu has demonstrated statesmanship as against past nepotism in governance.

Akpodoro called on the newly appointed service chiefs to write their names in gold and be dilligent in the course of discharging their duties to fatherland as he charged them to put in their best to stem the wave if violent crimes in the country.

The Mayor stated that Nigerians expect nothing less than optimal performance in their duties to the nation as he called on the citizenry to rally support for the newly appointed heads of security agencies for them to succeed saying without the needed cooperation from the citizenry, there will be little or no achievement to make saying the task of building a peaceful nation is the responsibility of all.

Sequel to the recent call by the Gbaregolor, Ughelli South Local Government Area-born Mayor Akpodoro on the president to sack the country’s military chiefs, a new legion of heads of security agencies were appointed while the former ones where retired from service with immediate effect.

The president had appointed the former chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu as National Security Adviser; Maj. Gen. C.G Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff; Maj. General T. A Lagbaja as the Chief of Army Staff.

Others are Rear Admirral E. A Ogalla who was appointed the Chief of Naval Staff; AVM H.B Abubakar Chief of Air Staff; DIG Kayode Egbetokun as the Acting Inspector-General of Police
while Maj. Gen. EPA Undiandeye is the new Chief of Defence Intelligence.

His Excellency wishes all the service Chiefs success in their individual and collective endeavours for a peaceful nation where life and properties are safe and secure adding that the latest development will uplift the souls and build the morale of younger officers whose hope of taking leadership roles in their respective agencies will be renewed with a dream of a prosperous career.

“I congratulate the new service Chiefs on their appointments which they should see as a call to service as we implore them to file the rough edges inherent in their agencies for a better stronger and more secure nation.

Security has been a major issue in the past decades and these crop of security echelon should as a matter of necessity hit the ground running as we know that they are square peg in square hole.

With their appointments, the President has reposed enormous confidence in them and they should in turn prove their worth to the nation because the task of keeping Nigeria safely united and peaceful rests upon their shoulders. We wish them success as they toil to protect our fatherland,” the Mayor stated.
