The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has inaugurated a broad-based team to facilitate the election of a former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor as flag bearer of the party, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo in the November 6 governorship polls in the state.
The campaign working committee, which had representatives at the National, state and local government levels was selected to secure victory for the party in the election.
Among those selected is the Anambra State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Mr C Don Adinuba, who was selected to serve as the state’s Deputy Campaign Director, Media.
The APGA faithful in their usual show of brotherhood, met to celebrate Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC’s) inclusion of its flag bearer, Prof. Soludo and his Deputy, Dr Onyekachi Ibezim among the contestants for the state polls.
In an epoch-making event, at the Dr Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka, Gov. Willie Obiano spoke on the prospects of the party and the credibility of its candidate, Soludo that would undoubtedly secure victory for the party.
“I expect the electorate to do the needful by supporting the party to sustain its victory streak to move the state to enviable heights.’’
National Chairman of APGA Dr Victor Ike Oye expressed concerns over the political tackles being inflicted on the party by desperate politicians, who want to take the state by force.
Dr Oye predicted victory for the party, given the wide acceptability of its flag bearer, Prof. Soludo and his deputy Dr Ibezim, whose profile towered above their counterparts in other political parties.
He described the desperation of the party’s political rivals trying to use the judiciary and political intimidation to score some cheap political points.
The immediate past National chairman of the party and Chairman of the party’s reconciliation committee, Sen. Victor Umeh commended INEC for being truly independent by re-enlisting Prof. Soludo as APGA’s governorship candidate.
Sen Umeh announced the inclusiveness of the campaign committee structure, which empowered all party members to work hard for the victory of the party.
He urged all aggrieved members of the party to bury the hatchet and join a winning team.
Soludo in a remark pledged that his team would work toward giving the state the best, given the superlative track record of the incumbent governor Chief Obiano.
He expressed delight at APGA led administration in the state that had consistently delivered fruitful democracy dividends to Ndi Anambra.
The former CBN boss noted that under the party’s watch, the poverty rate index of the state had reduced from over 50 per cent in 2010 to 14.3 per cent under the Obiano administration.
A former Chief Judge of Anambra, Presidential aspirant under the APGA, Prof. Peter Umeadi expressed delight at INEC’s inclusion of Soludo’s name on the ballot, describing it as good news for the party.
“APGA is the party to beat in the election,’’ Umeadi said.
