N1.5 Billion or Nothing: Anambra Billionaire’s Kidnappers Play Hardball as Talks Collapse

Abductors of Jezco Group chairman jack up ransom by 114%, communication with family hits dead end

The abductors of septuagenarian businessman and Chairman of Jezco Group, Chief Sir Joseph Ezeokafor, have dramatically increased their ransom demand to a staggering N1.5 billion—more than double their initial figure—as negotiations with his family reportedly collapse.

According to a report by Arise TV, the kidnappers who seized the Anambra billionaire in the early hours of Tuesday initially demanded N700 million for his release. The family, desperate to secure his freedom, was reportedly prepared to negotiate payment.

But in a shocking twist, the abductors jacked up the ransom by a staggering 114%, raising it to N1.5 billion—and then cut off communication entirely.

Prayer Trip Turned Nightmare

Ezeokafor, a respected businessman, was said to have left his home at approximately 2 am—without his security details—heading to a prayer ground for his annual spiritual rejuvenation when he was ambushed and taken.

His decision to travel without protection reportedly made him an easy target for the kidnappers.

Family in Distress

A source close to the family, speaking on condition of anonymity, revealed that attempts to re-establish contact with the abductors have so far failed, leaving relatives in an agonizing limbo.

The development has sent shockwaves through the business community and Ezeokafor’s local community, with associates expressing deep concern over his fate.

Authorities Silent

Nearly a week after the incident, neither the Anambra State Police Command nor the state government has issued any public statement regarding the abduction or rescue efforts.

The circumstances surrounding Ezeokafor’s whereabouts and current efforts to secure his release remain shrouded in uncertainty.
