Gunmen Strike at Farmsettlement Snatch Poultry Farmer – Family Faces N500M Ransom Nightmare
A 33-year-old poultry farmer, Oreoluwa Osonuga, was abducted in broad daylight on Sunday by armed gunmen at the Ikenne Farm Settlement in Ogun State. The attack occurred around 12:05 p.m. as he was driving out of his farm—until bullets tore through his car and kidnappers dragged him into the bush.
The farm settlement chairman, Seye Kehinde, confirmed the incident in a statement on Monday, revealing that the abductors made contact with the victim’s family just hours after the attack—demanding a staggering N500 million ransom.
“Security forces were alerted immediately. Soldiers from Ilese combed the forest but came back empty-handed,” Kehinde said. “It’s now day two, and there’s been no breakthrough—no rescue, no further calls.”
Osonuga’s granduncle, Soga Osonuga, described the family’s agony, saying: “This is a young man trying to build a decent life. We are shattered. We plead with security agencies—please bring our son back alive.”
This is the second kidnapping at the settlement in four months, raising fears that farmers are becoming easy targets for armed gangs. In April, another farmer was abducted and released only after ransom was paid.
Police have yet to comment publicly, even as the Ogun State Commissioner of Police oversees ongoing operations. This incident comes just days after a joint security team rescued seven abducted polytechnic students in the state—but this time, the hunters are still hunting.
