Ogun governor accuses predecessor of ‘stylish support’ for PDP candidate, Daniel’s camp fires back
The political feud between Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun and his predecessor Gbenga Daniel has exploded into open warfare, with both camps trading blistering accusations over political allegiance ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Abiodun, in a statement Thursday, accused Daniel of operating outside the APC mainstream by allegedly backing PDP governorship candidate Ladi Adebutu. The governor claimed he was warned against supporting Daniel’s 2023 Senate bid—but chose to honour him anyway.
“Now the gloves are off,” Abiodun declared, referencing a controversial audio recording and Daniel’s recent foundation event where Adebutu was a special guest.
Daniel’s Camp Fires Back
But Daniel’s loyalists dismissed the claims, insisting the former governor’s political family remains intact and firmly behind him.
The OGD Loyal Coordinators Forum slammed those who recently visited Abiodun, stating they acted without mandate or approval.
“Those individuals do not speak for us. Their decision cannot be interpreted as the position of OGD loyalists,” the forum said, pledging unwavering loyalty to Daniel.
Daniel’s media aide also clarified there was no “relaunch” of any foundation—just a reunion to plan a 25th anniversary, adding that Adebutu has been a member for over 20 years.
Battle for Senate Seat
At the heart of the rift is the Ogun East Senate ticket. Daniel wants another term, while Abiodun—finishing his second term as governor also eyes the seat. The APC has already adopted Abiodun as its consensus candidate.
Audio Controversy
Daniel’s camp has dismissed the circulating audio as “manipulated and doctored,” revealing they reported the matter to law enforcement six weeks ago.
“These shenanigans must stop in our body politics,” his media office stated.
