Lagos Governor nominates seasoned financial expert to lead state audit office, pending Assembly confirmation
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has nominated Dr. Olufunke Omolara Tayo-Makanjuola as the Acting State Auditor-General, subject to confirmation by the Lagos State House of Assembly.
The appointment, effective July 28, 2026, was formalized through Circular No. CIR/HOS/’26/052 issued by the Office of the Head of Service.
Dr. Tayo-Makanjuola, who previously served as Head of Directorate, Government Accounts, brings decades of financial management expertise to the role. Her nomination has been widely praised for her “exceptional professionalism, integrity, and dedication to public financial management.”
A distinguished academic and professional, she holds a Doctor of Business Administration from Lagos State University, an MBA from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, and advanced credentials in forensic accounting from the University of Lagos.
She is a Fellow of multiple prestigious bodies including the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria, the Chartered Institute of Taxation, and the Chartered Institute of Directors. Her contributions earned her the Distinguished Woman of Peace and Honour Award from the United Nations Positive Livelihood Award Centre.
The Office of the State Auditor-General expressed confidence in her leadership, stating she will “further strengthen accountability, transparency, and excellence in public sector auditing across Lagos State.”
The office also commended Governor Sanwo-Olu for demonstrating “confidence in Dr. Tayo-Makanjuola’s capacity to lead the Office and advance the State’s commitment to good governance and prudent management of public resources.”
