Fresh pressure has mounted on the police in Delta over the death of Joseph Anigboro following allegations that he was assaulted and tortured in Orogun Community, Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, with a rights activist now petitioning the Inspector General of Police for urgent intervention and investigation.

The incident, which reportedly occurred on August 21, 2025 has continued to generate concern among residents and community stakeholders seeking justice over the circumstances surrounding Anigboro’s death.

Sources within the community alleged that the development triggered protests by youths of Ugono community shortly after the incident, while claims also emerged that some individuals connected to the matter reportedly left the area in the aftermath of the controversy.

The case was said to have been initially reported at the Orogun Divisional Police Station before being transferred to the Ughelli Area Command. However, months after the incident, some residents and indigenes have continued to express dissatisfaction over what they described as the slow pace of investigation and absence of arrests.

Family members of the deceased, particularly his widow, were also said to have repeatedly appealed to authorities to ensure a thorough investigation into the matter. Community sources further alleged that the late Anigboro was buried before several questions surrounding the circumstances of his death were fully addressed.

In a new development, rights activist, Comrade Oghenetega Igben, has reportedly taken up the matter, insisting that the allegations deserve comprehensive investigation in line with due process and the rule of law.

According to information available, the activist submitted a petition to the Inspector General of Police and the Delta State Commissioner of Police, requesting an in-depth probe into the allegations surrounding Anigboro’s death.

The petition reportedly stressed that allegations involving torture, assault, and loss of life should be treated with utmost seriousness, emphasizing the need for accountability and justice through lawful investigation procedures.

As of the time of filing this report, the police authorities had yet to issue an official statement regarding the allegations or provide updates on the status of investigations into the matter.
