Four Arrested as Police Exhume Body of 26-Year-Old Beaten to Death Over Machete Threat
In a gruesome tale of jungle justice turned cover-up, the Akwa Ibom State Police Command has exhumed the body of Nsikak Joshua, 26, and arrested four suspects who allegedly beat him to death—then forced his grieving father to dig a shallow grave and bury him right in their own compound.
The Horrifying Plot
The victim’s 52-year-old father reported the incident on July 14, 2026, revealing that his only son was murdered by four men: Otobong Nelson (aka ‘Efok Ikid’), Inemesit Robert, Utibe Clement, and Victor Robert.
But the cruelty didn’t end with the killing. Armed with spades, the suspects brought Joshua’s body to his father’s home, compelled the elderly man to choose a burial spot, dug a grave, and buried the corpse before threatening him into silence.
Confession & Arrests
Police spokesperson DSP Timfon John stated that detectives arrested Otobong Nelson and Utibe Clement on July 17. During interrogation, Nelson confessed that Joshua was summoned over an allegation of threatening a neighbour with a machete.
Nelson admitted ordering his accomplices to assault Joshua with sticks—blows that proved fatal. After the death, they transported the body and lied to the father, claiming Joshua was killed in a hit-and-run accident, and persuaded him to skip the mortuary.
Justice Beckons
The victim’s remains have since been exhumed and deposited in a morgue for autopsy.
Commissioner of Police, Baba Azare, condemned the act as “barbaric and unacceptable,” vowing that every suspect and anyone who intimidated witnesses or concealed evidence will face the full wrath of the law.
No one gets away with murder not even when they try to bury the truth.
