Authorities of the Bayelsa State Police Command have confirmed the arrest of ten suspected cultists along the Obele end of Ovom in Yenagoa, the state capital, over their alleged involvement in the deadly attack last Sunday which left a street-corner metal scavenger, popularly known as “Iron Condemned,” dead and three others injured.
According to the State Police Commissioner, CP Iyamah Daniel, the suspects were arrested following a raid prompted by an SOS from residents of the Obele area, who alleged that cultists were on the rampage and shooting indiscriminately to dispossess residents of their phones and other valuables.
It was learned that the suspected cultists launched a nighttime raid on the residents of Obele and dispossessed them of their phones and valuables.
They, however, met stiff resistance from the street-corner metal scavengers, popularly known as “Iron Condemned,” and opened fire on them for challenging them.
“The boys were on a massive raid. Many residents were caught unawares, and others ran into their houses for safety.
The ‘Iron Condemned’ boys, however, resisted handing over their phones and this infuriated the cult boys who started shooting,” a source recounted.
One of the “Iron Condemned” boys died in the hospital from a fatal gunshot wound, while three others survived.
CP Iyamah Daniel has repeatedly urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement, emphasizing that active community engagement is critical for intelligence-gathering and preventing crimes.
He assured that the suspected cult groups involved in the Obele attack will be brought to book and face the law.
