She faked a pregnancy for nine months. Then she faked being a helper. And in one brazen act, she faked being a mother—by stealing a newborn straight from the arms of a woman who had just given birth.
The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested 19-year-old Khadija Ibrahim for allegedly snatching a day-old baby from her biological mother, Fatima Muhammad, in Zuru Local Government Area—and presenting the infant to her own husband as their “miracle child.”
The chilling deception began on July 23, 2025, when Khadija reportedly offered to assist the new mother by fetching hot water. Instead, she fled with the hours-old baby. It took over a year of investigation before police finally tracked her down on August 14, 2026.
But the real shocker? The suspect had been living a double life—pretending to be pregnant for nearly three trimesters while her husband and community watched, unaware that her growing “bump” was nothing but a desperate cover for a barren womb.
“Social and emotional pressure over not yet having a child, as her peers had already given birth,” drove her to commit the heartless act, police revealed.
Thankfully, the stolen baby was recovered alive and safely reunited with her weeping biological mother.
Khadija is now in police custody and will face the full weight of the law, according to CP Umar Hadejia, the state’s Commissioner of Police, who praised his operatives for cracking the case.
“The command will continue to protect children and ensure anyone found culpable is brought to justice,” he vowed.
For now, one mother has her child back. But the question lingers—how many more dreams of motherhood are being built on stolen innocence?
