Kebbi governor urges military to crush bandit attacks

Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris has called on the Nigerian military to intensify operations against bandits threatening communities across parts of the state, particularly along the Yauri, Shanga and Ngaski axis.
The governor made the call on Friday during an unscheduled visit to troops stationed at a military camp in Yauri, where he commended the soldiers for their commitment and efforts to protect residents.

Idris also expressed appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff and the wider military leadership for deploying additional troops to Kebbi, saying the reinforcement would strengthen existing security operations in areas affected by bandit attacks.

According to the governor, communities along the Yauri-Shanga-Ngaski corridor have faced incursions by bandits entering from neighbouring Niger, Zamfara and Kwara states.
He said the arrival of the additional troops would complement the work already being carried out by other security agencies and boost their morale.
“I’m impressed by your number,” the governor told the troops, while thanking the military leadership for responding to the state’s request for increased security presence.

Idris said his administration would continue to provide support and create the necessary conditions for security agencies to operate effectively.
He stressed that tackling insecurity requires cooperation between federal and state authorities, particularly in protecting vulnerable communities and restoring confidence among farmers.
The governor said securing rural areas was essential to enabling farmers to return safely to their farms and sustain agricultural activities.

He urged the military to use its operational capabilities to prevent further attacks, expressing confidence in the professionalism of Nigeria’s armed forces.
“Bandits are trying to embarrass us. They are coming to attack our people,” Idris said, while calling on security agencies to intensify efforts against the criminal groups.

The governor’s visit comes amid continued concerns over insecurity affecting rural communities in parts of northern Nigeria, where bandit attacks have disrupted farming, movement and economic activities.
Earlier in Yauri, Idris paid a courtesy visit to the Emir of Yauri, Dr Muhammad Zayyanu Abdullahi, at his palace.

He later commissioned a new Jumu’a Mosque in the Tudun-Gwamna area of Yauri and joined worshippers for Friday prayers.
The Emir commended the governor for his continued support and concern for residents of the Yauri Emirate.
