Nigerian troops have rescued 14 people after confronting terrorists who were moving with kidnapped victims in Sabuwa Local Government Area of Katsina State.
The operation was carried out on Tuesday, August 18, around Madaci Forest after troops of Operation Fansan Yamma received information about the movement of the terrorists.
The Media Information Officer for Operation Fansan Yamma, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, said the troops quickly moved to the area and engaged the terrorists.
According to Danja, the confrontation forced the terrorists to abandon the captives and flee into nearby bushes.
The troops subsequently searched the area and rescued 14 victims, made up of six males and eight females.
Initial findings showed that the victims had been kidnapped from different locations around Dandume, Bakori and Funtua in Katsina State.
The rescued victims were handed over to the relevant local authorities for further assistance and reunification with their families.
Danja said the operation reflected the military’s continued efforts to protect communities and prevent terrorist activities across the region.
He added that troops would maintain pressure on terrorist groups and intensify operations to safeguard communities in Nigeria’s North-West.The military also urged residents to continue providing security agencies with timely and useful information that could support ongoing operations.
