Natasha Osawaru, wife of Nigerian music star 2Baba, has been named Minority Leader of the Edo State House of Assembly.
Osawaru, who represents Egor Constituency, assumed the position during plenary on Monday following a reshuffle of the Assembly’s principal leadership.
Her appointment comes after she defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in May 2026.
In a statement shared on her Facebook page, Osawaru described the new position as a responsibility to the people rather than simply a political title.
“This new responsibility is not a title; it is a trust,” she said, stressing the importance of debate, accountability and standing up for ordinary citizens.
Her emergence as minority leader gives her a prominent role in the Edo legislature and further raises her profile in Nigerian politics. The development has also attracted attention because of her marriage to 2Baba, one of Nigeria’s best-known Afrobeats stars, amid reports of an ongoing marital crisis.
