Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has paid an unexpected congratulatory visit to Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, urging him to sustain good governance and keep delivering democratic dividends following his resounding re-election.
Obasanjo arrived at the governor’s country home in Ede on Sunday night, accompanied by his ally, Otunba Oyewole Fasawe. The surprise visit was met with dancing and songs of praise from Governor Adeleke and his deputy, Kola Adewusi, as they received the veteran statesman.
The former president prayed for the governor’s continued success and issued a direct charge: “Continue to deliver good governance. Continue to meet the needs of your people.”
Clearly moved by the visit, Governor Adeleke expressed gratitude to God and the people of Osun, pledging unwavering loyalty to his constituents. “Baba, I thank you for this surprise visit. I promise never to disappoint God, the Osun people, and all lovers of democracy who made our victory possible,” he told the former leader.
Adeleke, first elected in 2022, secured a fresh four-year mandate on Saturday, running on the Accord Party platform after defecting from the PDP in December 2025. He polled 511,067 votes, defeating APC’s Bola Oyebamiji, who garnered 444,815 votes, while ADC’s Najeem Salaam came a distant third with 17,180 votes.
His victory triggered widespread celebrations across Osun State, with supporters flooding the streets following the official declaration.
