Osun Governor’s visit to Tinubu was courtesy, not defection — Campaign spokesman
Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has no plans to join the All Progressives Congress (APC), his campaign spokesman Pelumi Olajengbesi declared Friday, dismissing speculation sparked by the governor’s recent visit to President Bola Tinubu.
Olajengbesi clarified that Thursday’s meeting was a routine courtesy call to show respect for the presidency and thank Tinubu for ensuring a fair playing field during the recent governorship election.
“The visit is the proper thing to do. It is the norm,” Olajengbesi told journalists in Abuja. “Osun State is a sub-nation under Nigeria, and we don’t intend to take it out of Nigeria.”
The governor also used the opportunity to advocate for healing and unity in Osun post-election, with Tinubu reportedly agreeing that “it is time to heal the wound of the people.”
While dismissing collaboration with the African Democratic Congress during the election, Olajengbesi emphasized Adeleke’s re-election came from Osun voters who appreciated his infrastructure and welfare record.
“Governor Adeleke will work with the Federal Government to ensure progress in Nigeria and Osun State,” he assured, “but he remains a committed member of his political party.”
