Northern senators issue urgent ultimatum to FG and governors: Pass State Police Bill or watch Nigeria burn.
The Northern Senators Forum has fired a desperate warning to the Federal Government and state governors—decentralised policing can no longer wait after terrorists slaughtered 36 people in two brutal attacks across Adamawa and Sokoto states.
In a searing statement on Friday, Senate Chairman Abdulaziz Yar’Adua condemned the “unacceptable” bloodbath, revealing that Boko Haram insurgents killed 8 in Gaya community, Adamawa (including a police inspector), while the Lakurawa extremist network massacred 30 worshippers during Friday prayers in Ungushi village, Sokoto—on the same day 4 soldiers fell in the area.
“We cannot continue to lose innocent lives to insurgents while bureaucracy delays critical security reforms. The time to act is NOW,” Yar’Adua thundered.
The senators are now demanding:
· Immediate ratification of the State Police Bill by the Presidential Working Group, governors, and state Houses of Assembly
· Stronger community vigilantes funded to serve as intelligence partners to security forces
With Nigeria’s security architecture crumbling, the North is drawing a line in the sand: decentralise policing or brace for more carnage.
