Nurses in Delta state are jubilating following the transfer of Mrs. Gloria Igumbor, former director of Nursing Services at the state ministry of health.
Available reports also indicate that students of school of nursing are also rejoicing along with nurses in the state.
The belief is that the transferred Director of Nursing Services was not the right officer to mount the position of director of nursing services in the ministry of health.
For the past four years, nurses in the state were aggrieved as she was reportedly holding a position which was not rightly hers in line with seniority principles.
Protest letters were written by nurses, calling for her removal and the most qualified nurse appointed as director of nursing services in the ministry of health but their pleas failed to yield needed results.
A source within the body of nurses told Emerald News that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, the commissioner for health, the head of service and chairman of the civil service commission intervened and she was redeployed to primary health care development agency.
Following her redeployment, the most senior nurse in the ministry has been appointed as director of nursing services in the ministry of health.
In an appreciation note to the governor and made available to Emerald News, the nurses wrote thus: “The nurses of Delta state appreciate His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori for lifting nursing in Delta state to greatness with his MORE Agenda.
“Nurses all over Delta State on Thursday 8/03/2024 went into wild jubilation when the news of her removal and redeployment broke out among nurses. She was not the right person for the office.
“We are overwhelmed with joy for restoring the pride of the nursing profession and hope of career progression in the civil service.
“Our governor is indeed a man of destiny ! Chosen to right the lingering wrongs. We are proud to call you our GOVERNOR. May your reign continue to bring peace to Delta State. Long Live. His EXCELLENCY ! Long Live Delta State!”
