The Delta State Police Command has arrested one suspect in connection with the death of Mr Unity Ekpevbughe Adeda, a Deputy Director in the Delta State Ministry of Secondary Education. Adeda reportedly died following an incident at the office of the Commissioner for Secondary Education, Dr Kingsley Ashibogwu, in Asaba.
The police said it had received allegations that the deceased was beaten by some aides to the commissioner identified as Enos Attah, Oputa Okestine and Lucky Adoh. According to the Command, one of the suspects, Lucky Adoh, has been arrested, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the other suspects.
In a statement issued on Thursday, September 25, 2026, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, said the Commissioner of Police, CP Samuel E. Erale, had ordered the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident and the death of the deceased.
The investigation, according to the police, will examine available evidence, including video footage, eyewitness accounts, medical records and the actions of all persons connected with the incident.
The Command said the investigation is aimed at establishing the facts and ensuring that anyone found culpable is prosecuted in accordance with the law.
CP Erale assured the family of the deceased and members of the public that the police would neither shield nor spare anyone found culpable, regardless of their status or position.
He also assured that the investigation would be conducted professionally, transparently and without interference, while appealing to the public to remain calm and avoid drawing conclusions before the investigation is completed.
The Commissioner of Police expressed condolences to the family of Adeda and reiterated the Command’s commitment to pursuing justice “without fear or favour.”
