Governments at all levels as well all citizenry of Nigeria must join hands to create awareness to ensure full accessibility of family planning by women of reproductive age.
This was the resolution made at the end a review meeting of Media Action for Family Planning Committee in Anambra State.
The review was aimed at strengthening the already-built capacity of the committee members which comprises Anambra State Government Information Officers, Journalists from Print/ Electronics Media and Social Media Influencers on Family Planning and Health Related Challenges.
The meeting which took place on Thursday 25th March, 2021 at Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS) Complex, Awka was organized by The Challenge Initiative (TCI), Nigeria and Development Communication Network (DEVCOM), Lagos
Speaking at the event, the TCI representative, Mrs. Kachi Ewe, said that the participants were expected to discuss the challenges at some of the Primary Health Centres (PHC) they visited in the state as regards family planning as well as
proffering solutions to them.
Mrs. Ewe also said that the participants should develop working plan that will help to promote subsequent advocacy for family planning in the state.
Also, the coordinator of the committee, Mrs. Franca Madike, urged the participants to submit at the end of the review what are expected of the government to achieve sustenance of family planning campaign in the nooks and crannies of the state.
The participants at the meeting said that community leaders of all the towns must be involved in educating the masses.
They submitted that government and private media houses must embark on producing jingles that will always keep the masses at alert to access family planning.
They said bill boards should be sponsored all over the towns to keep people abreast of the need for family planning.
According to them, health workers should be trained properly on family planning and as well should be supervised closely to achieve efficiency.
Governments, groups and individuals should help to sponsor more logistics to achieve better accessibility of family planning in the state.
