Yoruba Nation activists have announced plans to hold a major march in the United States on June 9, 2022.
This was revealed in a poster distributed by All Yoruba Self Determination Groups and Media in Diaspora, a group fighting for the Yoruba Republic’s realization.
The event will take place at the US Department of State, 2201 C St NW, Washington, DC 20520, according to the organisation.
The gathering will demand that the Nigerian government recognize Yoruba sovereignty and free Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
Kanu, a British-Nigerian political activist who supports for Biafra’s secession and independence from Nigeria, has been held by Nigeria’s secret police, the Department of State Services (DSS), since his rendition to Nigeria from Kenya in June 2021.
The trial of Kanu began on Wednesday at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
Kanu was permitted to watch football matches after the court overturned some of the harsh limits that had been placed on him during his trial.
