Two senior consultant Gynaecologists from the Dalhatu Arafat Specialist hospital (DASH) in Lafia, Nasarawa State have lost their lives over lassa fever.

It was reported that the two medical consultants contracted the disease during an emergency caesarian operation conducted on a woman who was admitted into the hospital bleeding but unknown to the doctors she had lassa fever.

A Source revealed to reporters in Lafia that the pregnant woman was rushed into the hospital over complications arising from lassa fever but unknown to the medical experts they gave her urgent attention, believing it was pregnancy related complications.

The woman however, gave up the ghost hours after the surgery while the baby also died not quite long after the death of the mother.

In addition to this, the test result which was conducted on her later revealed that she had lassa fever which actually led to complications that resulted in premature labor necessitating her being rushed to the hospital on emergency.

The source disclosed further that one of the doctors who performed the operation died last week and the test result confirmed that he was killed by lassa fever.

It would be recalled that the ministry of health last week declared that lassa fever outbreak was imminent in the state with two reported cases.

The state ministry of health had earlier issued warning to residents to keep their food stuffs and any contact away from rodents, and maintain good hygiene lifestyle to avoid contacting lassa fever.
