Governor Oborevwori’s one year in office: Striking environmental compliance achievements

In the one year of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori under review, Delta State Environmental Taskforce led by Chief Godspower Asiuwhu, has made remarkable achievements. In achieving its objectives, it has collaborated with relevant government agencies with a view to enforcing compliance with environmental laws and policies applicable to the state.

The MORE Agenda of the state Governor, His EXCELLENCY RT. HON. (ELDER) SHERIFF OBOREVWORI, in line with the
one-year administration anniversary will be celebrated with substantial accomplishments. The environmental taskforce, since inception, has stamped its feet on the ground, with the aim of reviving Delta state’s environment, prioritizing cleanliness and safety of residents.

The Environmental Taskforce under the leadership of the chairman, Chief Godspower Asiuwhu (JP) in its determination to adequately discharge its functions in addressing environmental issues bordering on blockage of drainages and water channels, littering and indiscriminate dumpling of wastes including industrial wastes and toxins, carrying out activities that could improve neighborhood and enhance the environment, the Environmental Taskforce has put in place some strategies to achieve its development goals.

The following strategies have been put in place in order to produce desired policy goals and outcomes.

– Safeguarding waterways, ecosystems, and public safety

– Addressing pollution, drainage blockage, littering, and other environmental hazards.

Landmark Achievements Under Chief Asiuwhu’s Leadership

– Increased taskforce manpower from 120 to 315, accompanied by comprehensive workforce rebranding and training.

– Extensive spot assessments across the state to ensure environmental law compliance.

– Proactive stakeholder engagement with key bodies like NMDPRA, market unions, and transport associations, fostering consensus on sustainability initiatives.

– Successful launch of immigrant profiling and registration drives in Asaba.

– Relocation of artisans from key defaced areas to approved government centers.

– Demolition of criminal hideouts and illegal structures under strategic flyovers.

– Apprehension and prosecution of environmental law violators, contributing to enhanced compliance.

Future Directions

Governor Oborevwori’s administration remains dedicated to fostering a greener and healthier Delta State, continuing its mission of environmental sustainability.

Conclusion

The State Taskforce on Environment, under Governor Oborevwori’s leadership, exemplifies a steadfast commitment to positioning Delta State as a model of environmental excellence. Through proactive enforcement, stakeholder collaboration, and capacity building, the administration charts a promising course towards a prosperous and eco-conscious future.
