Several Islamic groups in Kano State have taken to the streets to protest against recent remarks by former United States President Donald Trump regarding Nigeria’s security challenges.
The demonstrators, who gathered on Saturday, marched through parts of the city to counter Trump’s claim of an ongoing “Christian genocide” in Nigeria.
Protesters carried placards with inscriptions such as “We condemn Trump’s threat to attack Nigeria,” “There is no Christian genocide in Nigeria,” and “America wants to control our resources.”
Trump had recently designated Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” over alleged persecution of Christians. He also warned that the United States might consider military intervention if the Nigerian government failed to address the killings.
In response, the Nigerian government dismissed the allegations of a Christian genocide as false, insisting that the country’s security issues are complex and not religiously motivated.
