Anambra Guber Poll: Labour Party Candidate Raises Alarm Over Widespread Vote Buying

The Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate in the ongoing Anambra election, George Moghalu, has raised alarm over the widespread cases of vote-buying reported across parts of the state.

Speaking with journalists on Saturday at his residence in Nnewi North Local Government Area, Moghalu condemned the development, describing it as “scandalous and deeply embarrassing.”

According to him, despite the heavy presence of security personnel deployed for the election, reports of vote-buying have continued to surface.

“The situation is scandalous and very embarrassing. The issue of vote-buying is no longer a speculation,” Moghalu said. “It happened very aggressively during the last by-election, and this time, I’ve been receiving reports of the same thing happening again.”

Moghalu urged security agencies to take decisive action against those involved, stressing that such acts compromise the credibility of the electoral process.

“With the level of security deployment in Anambra for this election, I expect that vote-buyers should have been apprehended and stopped by now,” he stated.

He described the trend as “most unfortunate” and emphasized that vote-buying erodes public trust in democracy.

Despite his concerns, Moghalu expressed confidence in his campaign and commitment to due process.

“I remain optimistic. I’ve done everything according to the rules, so I sleep peacefully and watch things unfold. One of the things I offer the people is my wealth of experience, both in the public and private sectors. I always encourage voters to verify who I am,” he added.
