Chief Mbazulike Amaechi, minister of aviation in the first republic, and the only surviving Zikist, has died at 93.
Amaechi who was known for his intervention for Igbo land also intervened in the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), which he failed to realise until his death.
It was gathered that Amaechi died with the regret of not seeing Nnamdi Kanu freed. This information was contained in the press release by the family, signed by Azeana Tagbo Amaechi.
The press release read:
“The Ume Amechi, Ezeana Ihinede families and the Umu Mmara kindred of Amihe Ukpor in Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State announce the peaceful transition of our illustrious son, father and grandfather, Chief Mbazulike Amechi (Dara Akunwafor).
