A significant fire swept through the Iya Maryam Adebara Complex at Ogunpa Market in Ibadan, Oyo State, late Monday, completely destroying at least 10 commercial shops, officials confirmed.
The blaze broke out on Monday night and was reported to the Oyo State Fire Services, which promptly dispatched firefighters to the scene. Upon arrival, crews found 10 shops fully engulfed in flames.
According to Moroof Akinwande, Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, responders were able to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby structures with assistance from the Federal Fire Service.
Authorities suspect the fire may have been linked to the operation of a generator by one of the occupants, though investigations are ongoing.
No injuries or casualties have been reported so far. Local law enforcement provided security at the site as emergency teams continued their operations.
