The Mayor of Urhoboland and business mogul, Mayor Akpodoro, has congratulated the newly appointed Group General Manager of the National Petroleum Investment Management Services (NAPIMS), Engr. Oluwaseyi Omotowa.
NAPIMS is a body responsible for managing the Nigerian government’s investments in the upstream sector of the country’s oil and gas industry, and the Mayor has described Omotowa as a “round peg in a round hole.”
Engr. Omotowa takes over from Bala Wunti, who held several key positions in NNPC and served with distinction, finishing his tenure strongly and meritoriously.
In a statement issued in Abuja, Mayor Akpodoro described Engr. Omotowa’s appointment as well-deserved and a reward for his hard work and excellent service delivery.
The Mayor described the newly appointed head of NAPIMS as a goal-oriented, astute, and courageous technocrat who has dedicated over two decades of his life to the growth and development of Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.
The Gberegolor-born Mayor of Ughelli South Local Government Area in Delta State expressed that providence has placed Engr. Omotowa in a position of higher responsibility.
As a graduate of Engineering from the University of Ilorin, Nigeria, the Mayor believes that Nigerians expect Omotowa to unleash his management and administrative potentials to elevate the oil and gas industry for the benefit of all.
Mayor Akpodoro further emphasized that the wealth of experience Engr. Omotowa brings to the table will propel the industry forward as he leverages his merit and professional expertise.
Mayor Akpodoro also noted that Engr. Omotowa’s rise to the position of Group General Manager follows his successful tenure as Managing Director of the Nigerian Gas Company Limited, a Strategic Business Unit (SBU) of NNPC Limited.
Omotowa’s career trajectory, from his position as Managing Director of NGC to his current appointment, exemplifies the principle that “to whom much is given, much is expected.”
Engr. Omotowa holds a B.Eng. (Hons) in Civil Engineering from the University of Ilorin, Nigeria.
He joined NNPC Limited in June 2005 and has amassed 28 years of cognate working experience in both the construction and oil & gas industries.
Before his appointment as Managing Director of NGC in March 2020, he had held various leadership roles across NNPC Limited, including serving as General Manager of the PSC-NAPIMS division in Lagos between October 2018 and March 2020.
He also worked as General Manager of Construction at Greenfield Refinery Projects Division in Abuja and as Manager of Upstream Projects at the Engineering and Technology Division in Abuja.
The Mayor expressed hope that the Nigerian oil and gas industry is in capable hands with Engr. Omotowa at the helm, commending the President for appointing another excellent and driven professional.
Mayor Akpodoro further praised the President for his ongoing efforts to reform the nation’s oil and gas industry.
As a reputable former militant leader in the Niger Delta region, the Mayor called on ex-agitators to support Engr. Omotowa in his duties.
He emphasized that development can only flourish in a peaceful environment and urged the youth and people of the Delta to rally behind the newly appointed Group General Manager of NAPIMS.
“Engr. Omotowa has been instrumental in repositioning the oil and gas industry for national development over the years. We have implicit confidence in his professional capabilities, having seen him prove himself across the spectrum of the Nigerian oil industry,” the ex-militant leader-turned Mayor of Urhoboland concluded.
