The Head of the Association of Urhobo Mayoral Family Crown (AUMFC) and respected former Niger Delta militant leader, Mayor Akpodoro, has extended warm Easter greetings to Nigerians.
In his message, he emphasized the significance of Easter as a time to reflect on the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ and the values it symbolizes—peace, love, compassion, forgiveness, and unity.
Speaking from the Ughelli Mayoral Palace on Easter Sunday, Mayor Akpodoro encouraged Christians to draw inspiration from the sacrificial love of God, who gave His only son for the salvation of mankind.
He stressed that the essence of Easter should be visible in the lives of believers, urging them to embody the teachings and character of Christ.
“History tells us that as Jesus hung on the cross, he declared ‘It is finished.’ This Easter, we must let our sins die with Christ and rise with Him in righteousness. Only by living Christ-like lives can we build a peaceful, crime-free society,” he said.
He also called for greater unity among Christians to uphold and live out the teachings of Christ, noting that living in sin, even after the resurrection of Jesus, poses a significant threat to societal progress.
“Until we agree to die to sin and rise in Christ, we cannot truly enjoy the abundant life He promised, nor can our society benefit from lasting peace.”
In his Easter message, the Mayor also appealed to the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, to intensify efforts in empowering the people—especially the Urhobo youth—whom he represents.
He expressed concern over rising unemployment in Urhoboland and urged the governor to expand his pro-people initiatives to address the issue.
“As a Christian and a leader, the governor has done well so far, but more needs to be done to create opportunities for our youth. This would be a true reflection of Christ’s love in governance,” Akpodoro stated.
Additionally, Mayor Akpodoro called on President Bola Tinubu to step up efforts in tackling the country’s security challenges.
He warned against the activities of conflict profiteers and political agitators who are destabilizing peace in parts of the country. He also urged religious leaders to intensify their prayers and intercessions for the nation.
He encouraged all Nigerian citizens to be vigilant and proactive in securing their communities. “Security is everyone’s responsibility. Let us all commit to saying something when we see something,” he said, stressing the importance of collective action in ensuring national safety.
