Renowned peace and development advocate, Comrade (Chief) Sheriff Mulade, has called on the Ijaw, Itsekiri, and Urhobo ethnic groups in Warri Federal Constituency, Delta State, to embrace lasting peace and shun violence.
Mulade, the Ibe-Serimowei of Gbaramatu Kingdom, made the appeal while addressing stakeholders during this year’s International Day of Peace celebration themed “Act Now for a Peaceful World.”
Speaking at the event, he emphasized that peace is not just an aspiration but a necessity for development and progress.
“This theme calls on us to take immediate and proactive action as responsible stewards of peace. We must reflect on our roles—individually and collectively—in fostering peaceful coexistence, understanding, and cooperation,” he said.
He urged traditional rulers, community leaders, and youths across Delta State and Nigeria to resist being used as agents of violence or tools for crisis.
Instead, he encouraged them to continue supporting initiatives that promote unity among Urhobo, Ijaw, Itsekiri, Isoko, and Anioma ethnic nationalities.
Mulade made a special appeal to the Ijaw, Itsekiri, and Urhobo communities of Warri Federal Constituency to shun divisive politics, reject crisis merchants, and resist external influences that thrive on ethnic conflict. According to him, only peace can unlock Warri’s full potential.
“It is imperative to state categorically that there is no open ticket for crises beyond 2031 in Warri Federal Constituency. Warri needs permanent peace more than elections or voters. With peace, we can attract investors, create jobs, and drive development in our communities,” he asserted.
The environmental and human rights advocate also urged all Deltans and residents to give their full support to Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, noting that cooperation with the state government will ensure the people enjoy the dividends of democracy and sustainable development.
Mulade concluded by thanking Nigerians for joining the global community to mark the International Day of Peace, stressing that collective action remains the path to a just, equitable, and peaceful society.
