Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has officially re-nominated his deputy, Murtala Garo, as his running mate for the 2027 gubernatorial race calling him “the right choice” and vowing zero regrets.
The announcement dropped Monday during a high-stakes strategy session with federal appointees of President Bola Tinubu at the Kano Governor’s Lodge in Abuja, according to a statement by the governor’s spokesman, Sunusi Tofa.
Yusuf didn’t hold back in his praise, citing Garo’s “loyalty, commitment, and contributions” to the state’s development since taking office. He described their working relationship as rock-solid, calling Garo a “dependable partner” who has shown competence, dedication, and responsibility every step of the way.
“I have no regrets for choosing Garo as my Deputy in the last few months, and he has proven to be the right choice so far. I have every confidence in him,” Yusuf declared.
The governor credited Garo’s support for turbocharging the administration’s development agenda, adding: “His contributions have been remarkable, and his commitment to the progress of Kano State has remained unquestionable. Together, we will continue to work towards achieving the goals we set for our people.”
Yusuf also rallied party loyalists, political appointees, and supporters to stay united, stressing that collective strength is key to consolidating gains and facing the 2027 electoral battle head-on.
“We must remain focused, united and committed as we continue to build on the progress recorded by this administration and prepare for the challenges ahead,” he urged.
With this formal confirmation, the Yusuf-Garo ticket is now set in stone signaling early momentum for the NNPP’s bid to retain power in Africa’s largest sub-national economy.
