BY SUNNY DAVID, ONITSHA

As the crisis which had been rocking the apex market leadership of Onitsha Electronics Market deepens, trustees of the market through petition written by Sir Ejike Ezenwa Chamers have requested the governor of Anambra state Chief Willie Obiano to intervene.

According to the petition dated 06/10/2020 and captioned “Threat to the lives of our clients and deliberate and well orchestrated agenda to cause crisis in the Electronic Dealers Association Onitsha”

In the petition which was addressed to the Governor of Anambra State, Sir. Ezenwa stated that the trustees which included; Hon. Chuks Onyeizugbe, Hon. Charles Okoye, Mr. Obinna Igwemadu, Mr. Fredrick Okafor, Mr. Asaa Ikechukwu, Mr. Emeka Okafor and Mr. Lucky Mobi are Market stall owners at Electronics Market Onitsha are his clients which he said have instructed him to write the followings, alleging that the President of Electronic Dealers Association Onitsha, Mr. Izuchukwu Okoye in connivance with some of his executives contrived.

And he Mr. Okoye seeks to alter illegally some articles in the constitution of the association and have undertaken secretly to introduce unfounded articles into the constitution of the association without consent of the members of the Association, that Mr. Okoye since he assumed office refused and neglected to render any account to the Association.

Moreso, that electronics market is in danger of being sold off by AMCON because some characters used the market to take loan from a bank to the tune of three hundred million naira (#3000,000,000) without resort to traders who own market stalls, that the President purports to remove the General Secretary of the association Mr. Damian Ogudike unilaterally, that Mr. Okoye has employed his hirelings to intimidate anybody from baring his mind at meeting of the association.

The petitioner further said that members are threatened with impunity for airing their opinion and also Mr. Okoye has converted security patrol van of the electronic dealers market Onitsha to personal use outside the market.

Ejike therefore said that the trustees instructed him to respectfully implore Governor Obiano to conduct a quiet investigation into the on-goings in the electronic dealers market Onitsha, to cause a suspension of Mr. Okoye in order to enable him look into their complaints and equally requested Governer Obiano to mandate the trustees of the market or the vice chairman to handle and oversee the affairs of the market pending an election.

Meanwhile, when contacted Mr. Izuchukwu Okoye, who is the president of the electronics market Onitsha to react on the petition, he said, whatever is written against him does not concern him.
