A three-storey building housing students in Oko, Anambra State, came crashing down late Sunday night, trapping an unknown number of occupants under mountains of rubble.
The hostel, known as Elite Five Star Lodge near Tonimas Filling Station in Amokpala, collapsed without warning, sparking frantic overnight rescue operations.
Police spokesman Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed the incident, stating that joint security teams, the fire service, and the Anambra State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) scrambled to the scene.
“Some injured victims have been pulled from the debris and rushed to a hospital in Oko,” Ikenga said, but could not confirm the total casualties.
Authorities have cordoned off the area and appealed to residents to stay clear and avoid spreading unverified information. Rescue efforts continue as fears grow over more bodies still trapped beneath the concrete.
