Former South -South Coordinator of Transition Monitoring Group ( TMG), Chief Nengi James-Eriworio, (OON, has called on artists and celebrities in Nigeria to emulate David Adedeji Adeleke, known professionally as Davido by using their platforms to defend a free and fair elections in 2027 and urge the International community to provide close monitoring during the poll
According to Chief Nengi James, despite his blood connection to the Accord Party candidate in Osun State, Davido showed resilience and encouraged voters of all categories to come out emmasse to vote and protect their votes.
Chief Nengi James, who is also the Executive Director of the Niger Delta Monitoring Group and member of the oversight Board of the Violence Crimes Response Unit of the Nigeria Police Force, inaugurated under the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, stressed that unlike many other celebrities who decided to join one political parties or another to engage in verbal attacks against candidates against their choice, there is the need for Celebrities to focus on promoting true democracy, free and fair polls, protection of human rights and true opposition.
Chief Nengi James, in a statement on Monday, said the conduct of Davido during the last Osun State Governorship election has elevated him to a statesmanship level and make him a role model for Youths and electorates in the country.
He said by Davido conduct, he has earned the status of a true democrat and a true voice against electoral crimes and undemocratic conduct against opposition.
He added that Davido deserves both International, National and Corporate Awards for his exceptional bravery against Anti- Democratic Forces and policies.
The Niger Delta Activist also backed calls for the Nigerian Artistes to participate in voters education and mobilisation in order to put an end to the flagrant abuse of electoral laws including buying of votes and violence before and during elections.
He commended Davido, his uncle and Governor of Osun State, Gov. Ademola Adeleke, the people of Osun State, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and Security agencies for listening to the voice of the people to avoid undemocratic influences during the poll.
