Afrobeats star Davido has rejected reports that Governor Ademola Adeleke’s convoy came under attack in Osogbo, Osun State.
The reports emerged on Wednesday after Adeleke received his Certificate of Return from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) following his victory in the Osun State governorship election.
Adeleke later visited the palace of the Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Oyetunji, to celebrate his victory with the traditional ruler. Reports subsequently claimed that hoodlums engaged security personnel attached to the governor’s convoy in a gun battle outside the palace.
However, Davido, who is related to Governor Adeleke, disputed the account in a post on his verified X account.
He acknowledged that a fight occurred outside the palace but said it was unrelated to the governor and his entourage.
“Lies! It was a fight outside the palace that had nothing to do with us. The people love his excellency,” Davido stated.
The clarification comes amid heightened attention on developments in Osun following Adeleke’s victory in the governorship election.
According to the reported results, Adeleke secured 511,067 votes to defeat his closest rival, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who polled 444,815 votes. Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) finished third with 17,180 votes.
Davido’s comments seek to distinguish the reported confrontation outside the palace from claims that the governor’s convoy was directly attacked.
