BREAKING: FUOYE Blasts Fake News, Declares VC ‘Free and Working’ After Osun Poll Chaos
University fires back at ‘baseless’ arrest rumors, says professor traveled to Abuja on official business—not in police custody
The Federal University Oye-Ekiti has erupted in fury over what it calls “deliberately fabricated” reports that its Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Joshua Ogunwole, was arrested and detained by police in Abuja following his role as Chief Returning Officer for the Osun State governorship election.
“Completely false,” FUOYE’s Director of Communications, Dr Sunday Saanu, thundered in a statement Wednesday, insisting the embattled VC has not been arrested, detained, or even invited by any security agency.
Ogunwole, who declared incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke the winner, left Oye-Ekiti for Abuja on Monday—but for university business, not a police cell, the management stressed.
The university condemned the “reckless dissemination of fake news” and urged Nigerians to treat unverified social media claims with extreme caution.
“Prof. Ogunwole remains free, fully engaged, and working round the clock to reposition FUOYE,” the statement declared.
