Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has presented his Certificate of Return to Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, following his victory in the state’s August 15 governorship election.
Adeleke visited Wike on Thursday, August 20, after the Independent National Electoral Commission presented him with the certificate on Wednesday.
The governor’s meeting with Wike came shortly after he visited President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, where he also presented his Certificate of Return.Adeleke won the Osun governorship election with 511,067 votes, defeating the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who received 444,815 votes.
Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress finished third with 17,180 votes.
The presentation to Wike has attracted attention because of the minister’s earlier comments about the election. Wike had said he would have been in Osun State during the election if President Tinubu wanted Oyebamiji to win the contest at all costs.
Adeleke’s latest engagements come as the governor begins the next phase of his administration following his electoral victory, while political attention in Nigeria increasingly turns toward the 2027 general elections.
The Osun election remains significant beyond the state, as its outcome is being closely watched within Nigeria’s wider political landscape and by observers following the country’s preparations for the next presidential and general elections.
