In a fierce firefight that turned a village into a killing ground, security forces obliterated at least 24 bandits on Tuesday, smashing a sinister plot to drag dozens of women and children into captivity in Katsina State.
The dramatic showdown unfolded in Gidan Bawa village, Kandarawa Ward, Bakori LGA, after intelligence revealed that roughly 40 gunmen—loyal to the notorious kingpin Isiya Kwashen Garwa—were storming the community for a mass abduction. The operation was a high-stakes race against time, as the terrorists aimed to replicate the recent horror of Woro community in Kwara State and deliver a humiliating blow to the government.
But the bandits walked straight into a kill zone.
Acting on pinpoint intelligence, DSS operatives rallied the Katsina Community Watch Corps and the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) from Guga camp. In a textbook ambush, the joint team unleashed a hail of bullets, cutting down two dozen of the marauders in brutal close-quarters combat.
The victory came with two massive blows to the criminals: every abducted villager was rescued, and 19 stolen cattle were reclaimed from their clutches. As the survivors scattered into the bush, security forces vowed to hunt down the fleeing remnants, ensuring this bloody message resonates across the region—terror has no refuge here.
