The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate for Ebonyi/Ohaukwu Federal Constituency in Nigeria’s 2027 general election, Barrister Tochukwu Ogalagu, has called for a full investigation into the killing of Elder Onwe Ubochi.
Ubochi, a resident of Osege Village, Umuogudu Oshia Ngbo in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, was reportedly found dead after attending an APGA gathering on Monday, August 17, 2026.According to Ogalagu, Ubochi participated in a prayer session and activities supporting APGA candidates before leaving the venue alone for his home.
He was later reported missing, prompting his family to begin a search. Ogalagu alleged that Ubochi was attacked while returning home and that his body was later discovered in a stream near the road leading to his residence.
The APGA candidate described the incident as a serious crime and urged the police and other security agencies to establish what happened and ensure that those responsible face justice.
He said the police had been notified and that Ubochi’s remains had been deposited in a mortuary.
Ogalagu also urged residents and political supporters to remain calm and avoid actions that could lead to retaliation or further violence.
The candidate alleged that the killing could be linked to political threats reportedly made in the constituency ahead of the 2027 elections. He called for any such threats to be investigated.
However, reports circulating on social media alleging a direct connection between Ubochi’s death and his political activities have not been independently verified. There is currently no established evidence conclusively linking the killing to the APGA event or Ubochi’s political support.
The incident comes as political activities increase across Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general elections, with parties beginning early mobilisation and grassroots campaigns.
Ogalagu has called on political actors to maintain peace and respect the rule of law, while urging security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding Ubochi’s death.
