As Nigeria’s political landscape heats up for the 2027 general elections, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed that nine registered political parties have officially collected their access codes to upload candidate particulars for the Presidential and National Assembly races.
Mohammed Haruna, INEC’s National Commissioner for Voter Education and Publicity, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Abuja. “As of the close of work on Monday, nine political parties have collected the access code for the national elections,” Haruna stated.
The parties that have secured the codes include Accord (A), Action Alliance (AA), African Democratic Congress (ADC), the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Labour Party (LP), National Democratic Congress (NDC), National Democratic Party (NDP), Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), and the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
Haruna emphasized that political parties must approach INEC to collect the codes, not the other way around. He also stressed that any representative seeking the code on behalf of a party must present a valid authorization letter from the party’s leadership.
In line with INEC’s nomination guidelines, the commissioner urged parties to adhere strictly to the rules, noting that party officials have already undergone training. He also warned against last-minute submissions, pointing out that INEC had already extended the deadline from close of work to midnight on the final date.
“If any political party decides to wait until the deadline, INEC cannot be blamed for that,” Haruna cautioned.
According to INEC’s timetable, the submission of nomination forms for presidential and National Assembly candidates runs from June 27 to July 11, while governorship and state assembly nominations are scheduled for July 18 to August 8.
