President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday summoned the immediate Rivers State Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok Ete Ibas (retd.), to the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Ibas, who arrived at the Villa around 5:50 p.m. in brown native attire, was accompanied by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, and the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukayede.
Notably, Edun had earlier entered the Villa briefly before returning with a file in hand—an indication of the weight of the meeting.
Ibas administered the oil-rich state for six months under emergency rule before leaving office on September 17, when President Tinubu directed suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, and members of the State House of Assembly to resume their duties.
Following the return of democratic governance, the Rivers State House of Assembly, led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, announced plans to scrutinize government spending during the emergency period.
The House resolved “to explore the process of knowing what transpired during the emergency rule with regard to spending from the consolidated revenue fund for the award of contracts and other expenditure.”
Ibas, however, dismissed the move, insisting he would not submit to the probe.
Available records show that Rivers State received at least ₦254.37 billion from the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) between March and August 2025 under Ibas’s administration.
