The Delta state commissioner of police, Ari Mohammed Ali, has said that medical doctors could treat patients with gunshot wounds without waiting for police reports.
He said after the treatment has been done and life is saved, the police could be sought to take further action on such incidents.
This is against the initial situation where patients with gunshots injuries are left or directed to get police report before any treatment could be administered to them.
According to the Delta police boss, it is important to save life first before proceeding to other issues. For him, life is not important.
The Delta police commissioner made the disclosure when he paid visit to the Chief Medical Director of the Federal Medical Centre in Asaba, Dr Victir Osiatuma as part of his visits to special and sister security agencies in the state.
The police commissioner who also visited the Director General of DSS, Mr. Ademola Adebiyi; Sector commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Uche Peter Wihioka, Nigeria Navy, Nigeria Airforce, Nigeria army, expressed desire for all the security agencies to work together for overall peace in Delta state.
He is of the belief that only with peaceful co-existence and partnership of all the agencies will the state experience the needed peace and criminals will be brought to book.
All the agencies visited appreciated the commissioner of police for deeming it fit to visit them and also stressed on the need to be on the same page with the police as the police is the lead agency in crime fighting
The commissioner also visited the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, DESOPADEC, Nigeria Ports Authority and Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR), all in Warri Delta state
