Two employees of Eko Electricity Distribution Company in Lagos State has been confirmed dead by the Lagos State Police Command.
In a sad turn of events the loss was reported by the Police Public Relations Officer in Lagos, SP Benjamin Hundeyin.

“The electrocution of two employees of the Eko Electricity Distribution Company in Lagos State has been confirmed by the Lagos State Police Command,”  stated SP Benjamin Hundeyin. The tragic incident occurred in the Obalande area of Lagos Island.
Hundeyin explained that the case was reported to the Lion Building Division of the command at 5.55 p.m. on Saturday by another EKEDC staff member from Lagos Island.

According to the EKEDC worker’s report, on Saturday, a colleague named Umaru, aged 51, was electrocuted while digging to locate a faulty transformer cable at the P&T Obalende area. In a brave attempt to rescue Umaru, another colleague named Sunday Awaruwa, aged 48, was also electrocuted.

Upon receiving the report, detectives promptly visited the scene, documenting it with photographs. They rescued the victims and swiftly transported them to the Lagos Island General Hospital. Tragically, both victims were pronounced dead by the attending doctor. Their bodies have been taken to the IDH mortuary in Yaba for autopsy. The investigation is currently underway.”
