The Urhobo Progress Union Worldwide has congratulated the Ohworode of Olomu Kingdom, His Majesty Albert Akpomudje, on his emergence as the 54th Chairman of the Body of Benchers.
In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Dr. Kehinde Prince Taiga, the union described the appointment as a historic milestone for the Olomu Kingdom, the Urhobo nation, and Nigeria at large.
The statement was made under the leadership of the UPU President-General Worldwide, Ese Gam Owe.
The Body of Benchers is the apex institution in Nigeria’s legal profession, responsible for the formal call to the Bar and disciplinary oversight.
According to the UPU, Akpomudje’s elevation to its highest office reflects decades of distinguished service and unwavering commitment to justice and professional excellence.
Akpomudje, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (FCIArb), has built a reputation as a seasoned legal practitioner, administrator, and traditional ruler.
The union noted that his career has been marked by integrity, discipline, and dedication to the rule of law.
“The emergence of His Majesty is not surprising but well-deserved,” the statement read, highlighting his longstanding contributions to legal practice and national development.
“It is a fitting recognition of his commitment to upholding the highest standards of ethics within the profession.”
The UPU further emphasized that his appointment underscores the contributions of the Urhobo people to institution-building in Nigeria.
It expressed confidence that his leadership would strengthen the Body of Benchers and enhance its role in safeguarding the independence and integrity of the legal profession.
At a time when public trust in institutions remains critical, the union said Akpomudje’s leadership would provide “moral authority and direction” needed to reinforce confidence in Nigeria’s justice system.
The group called on Urhobo sons and daughters, as well as Nigerians nationwide, to celebrate the achievement, describing it as an honour not only for the Olomu Kingdom but for the entire country.
The statement concluded with prayers for wisdom, strength, and a successful tenure for the new chairman, expressing hope that his leadership would usher in a new era of professionalism and integrity in Nigeria’s legal system.
Akpomudje succeeds as the 54th head of the Body of Benchers, marking another significant chapter in his distinguished career in law and public service.
