Following the reported cases of imposition of local government chairmanship candidates by leaders of the People’s Democratic Party PDP in Delta state, a chieftain of the party has said that if the governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, allows the party to impose candidates on the people of the council areas the party will be punished in 2023.

The party chieftain who spoke on the heels of the crisis that resulted to the chairman of Patani local government area destroying properties of Delta state commissioner for Power and Energy, Basil Ganagana and his subsequent arrest, said it was a great disservice to the people of the council areas if the chairmanship  candidates are imposed against the people’s choice.

The party chieftain who did not want to be named said the PDP will be punished in 2023, ostensibly saying that the people of Delta will turn against the PDP and go for another party in the 2023 general elections. Although party leaders most times come out in the open to say nobody will be imposed on any one, they go behind and impose candidates on parties for elections.

Emerging reports across the state are indicative that the party leaders are going for consensus candidates who have been anointed by political heavy weights in the various local government areas of the state.

While the PDP chieftain agreed that no local government chairman should go for two terms as people are.much who are gunning for the office, he frowned at imposition of candidates against the wish of the people of Delta state.

He said imposition of candidates has become the signature tune of Delta PDP, adding that such action tantamount to denying other aspirants opportunity to achieve their political goals.
