A horrific head-on collision between two buses in Niger State has left 15 travelers burnt beyond recognition and 25 others fighting for their lives in hospital, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed on Sunday.
The charred wreckage tells a grim tale: the buses, traveling in the same direction along the Enagi-Mokwa Road, collided at high speed on Saturday evening—and instantly erupted into a fireball. By the time the flames died down, 15 people had been roasted alive inside the twisted metal.
FRSC Sector Commander Aishatu Sa’adu, speaking with NAN in Minna, blamed the carnage on a deadly cocktail of speeding and reckless overtaking at a bend.
“This was entirely avoidable,” Sa’adu said. “Excessive speed and dangerous overtaking cost 15 lives in a single night.”
The 25 survivors, many with severe burns and fractures, were rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Bida, and General Hospital, Kutigi, where they remain under intensive care.
Sa’adu has issued a stark warning to all motorists: “Slow down. Stop overtaking at bends. Your life is not worth the extra minute.”
